University Merit Scholarships in Australia for Indian Students: Value, Conditions and Deadlines at Each University

Almost every Australian university offers international students a tuition reduction for the whole course, assessed on your marks. The values and conditions differ more than the names suggest: some are automatic for every Indian applicant, some rank offer holders against each other, and a few need a separate application with an early deadline.

What the percentages are worth

A percentage award applies to every year of the course, so its value depends on the fee it is taken from. UNSW's 20% on an engineering fee of ₹41 lakh (A$61,500) is worth about A$12,300 a year; UQ's 25% on ₹41 lakh (A$60,952) about A$15,200; Tasmania's 30% on ₹28 lakh (A$41,950) about A$12,600. A one-off grant such as Monash's top ₹10 lakh (A$15,000) is worth less than a 20% award over a two-year master's at the same fee level. Count the award over the whole course, and check the average you must keep each semester to hold it: Wollongong, Western Sydney and Swinburne also run automatic awards of 20–50%, listed on their pages.

Questions from Indian students: University scholarships in Australia

Which Australian university gives the most scholarships to Indian students?
UNSW gives a 20% International Student Award to every Indian applicant starting in 2026 or 2027. Regional universities give the largest percentages: up to 50% at Adelaide, Flinders, Tasmania, Charles Darwin and Federation.
Are Australian university scholarships automatic?
Most are: UNSW, ANU, UQ, RMIT (while places last), Adelaide's 25% and 15% awards, Federation and Charles Darwin's 30%. Adelaide's 50% Academic Excellence Scholarship and Sydney's International Student Award need an application or statement.
What marks do I need for a 50% scholarship?
Tasmania's Aurora Excellence Scholarship: 90% in CBSE, CISCE or a state board (95% for Punjab and Haryana). Charles Darwin's Vice-Chancellor scholarship: 95%. Flinders' Vice-Chancellor Excellence Scholarship: a postgraduate GPA of 6.5 of 7.
Does the scholarship last the whole course?
Usually, if you keep a satisfactory or stated average. Sydney, UNSW, UQ, RMIT, UTS and Adelaide's awards run for the length of the course.
Are MBA students eligible?
Not always: Sydney's International Student Award excludes the MBA. UTS has a separate A$5,000 MBA scholarship.
