Universities in Australia for Indian Students: Group of Eight, Technology and Regional Universities With Fees in Rupees

Australia has about forty universities, almost all of them public, and they all charge international students full fees. What separates them for an Indian applicant is not only rank but price, Class 12 cut-offs and location: a degree from a regional campus adds points and years to the post-study path. We cover 19 universities, each checked against its own international fee and admission pages.

How to shortlist

Start from three numbers: your Class 12 percentage (or bachelor's average), your yearly budget in rupees including the A$29,710 living funds Home Affairs asks you to show, and whether you plan to stay after graduating. A CBSE student with 85% and a family budget above ₹45 lakh a year can aim at the Go8; with 65–75% and ₹30–35 lakh, the technology and regional universities fit better, and a regional campus adds years to the 485. See fees in rupees and the 485 visa.

Questions from Indian students: Universities in Australia

Which Australian university is best for Indian students?
For the strongest names: Melbourne, Sydney, UNSW, ANU and Monash. For engineering and IT at a lower fee in a big city: RMIT, UTS and Swinburne. For regional migration benefits: ANU, UWA and Adelaide among the Go8, and Newcastle, Tasmania, James Cook and Charles Darwin among the rest.
What is the Group of Eight?
The eight research-intensive universities: Melbourne, Sydney, UNSW, ANU, Monash, Queensland, Western Australia and Adelaide. They charge the highest fees, about A$45,000–65,000 a year for most courses, and set the highest Class 12 cut-offs.
Which Australian universities accept 60–65% in Class 12?
Charles Darwin University and Western Sydney take 60% in CBSE or CISCE; Flinders and Federation take 65%. Adelaide University asks for 70% (state boards 80%). Most Go8 courses need 75–90%.
Which universities give the 485 regional bonus?
Those outside Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Canberra, Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Gold Coast and Hobart are Category 2 (one extra year, two in Tasmania); Darwin, Townsville, Cairns and Ballarat are Category 3 (two extra years).
Do Australian universities give scholarships to Indian students?
Yes, mostly as automatic tuition reductions: 20% at Sydney, UNSW, ANU and RMIT, 15% at UTS for South Asia, up to 25% at UQ, and A$5,000–15,000 grants at Monash. Regional universities go to 30–50% for strong marks.
