Why Indian students choose UQ

UQ is the research university of a fast-growing state. Its strengths for an Indian applicant are engineering, computing, biotechnology and the health sciences, and the professional master's in engineering (bioengineering, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, software and urban water) all share one fee. St Lucia is a self-contained campus with lakes, colleges and sports fields, twenty minutes by ferry or bus from the city.

Fees in rupees with the awards

An engineering or IT year at ₹41 lakh (A$60,952) is about ₹40.8 lakh. With the 25% scholarship it falls to about ₹30.6 lakh; with the 20% award to about ₹32.7 lakh. Because UQ ranks offer holders against each other for these awards, an early application with strong marks helps.

Housing

From A$414 a week at Kev Carmody House on the St Lucia campus, A$439 at Walcott Street and A$401 in the Gatton halls. Residential colleges at St Lucia cost A$633–958 a week. Off campus, UQ quotes a shared room from A$359 a week and an apartment from A$480.

Regional status for the 485: Category 1, no bonus

St Lucia is in Brisbane, Category 1. Gatton, UQ's agricultural campus in the Lockyer Valley, is outside the major cities, but international degrees are mostly taught at St Lucia, so plan on the standard Indian stay of two, three or four years.

Pathway

UQ College runs the Tertiary Preparation Program and a foundation package. See pathway colleges.

Our assessment

UQ is the best-value Go8 member for health sciences and engineering once the automatic awards are counted, in a city where transport costs almost nothing. Compare it with Newcastle if you want engineering with regional status at a lower fee.

What IELTS does UQ need?
