UNSW Sydney for Indian Students: Engineering and Computing, Class 12 Percentages, Fees in Rupees and the 20% Award

UNSW, founded in 1949 as a university of technology, is now one of Australia's largest, with more than 63,000 students at Kensington, Paddington, the Sydney CBD and UNSW Canberra. It is 19th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and runs the widest engineering faculty in the country.

Why UNSW is the engineering choice

UNSW teaches more than a dozen engineering majors in one honours degree, from aerospace and mining to renewable energy, telecommunications and robotics, and its master's programmes mirror them. It works in three ten-week terms instead of two semesters, which means more entry dates and a faster pace: a full year is three terms, and the fee shown below covers the first year of study. Kensington, the main campus, is on the light rail line to the city.

English entry is lower than at most Go8 universities: IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5 for the default tier, and 6.5 (6.0) for business, law, medicine and postgraduate design and architecture.

Regional status for the 485: Category 1, no bonus

Kensington is in Sydney, a Category 1 city: no regional points and no second 485. UNSW Canberra is in a Category 2 area, but the courses and fees on this page are for the Sydney campuses.

Pathway

UNSW College runs the foundation and diploma pathways, and its students can receive the A$10,000 UNSW College Award on transfer. See pathway colleges.

Our assessment

For a CBSE student with 81% or more who wants engineering or computing in Sydney, UNSW is the strongest value among the Go8: lower Class 12 and English thresholds than Sydney and a 20% award that every Indian applicant receives.
