University of Western Australia (UWA) for Indian Students: CBSE Points to ATAR, Fees in Rupees and Perth's Regional Status

UWA is Western Australia's Go8 university, with its main campus at Crawley on the Swan River and a second campus at Albany on the south coast. Perth is a Category 2 city, which makes UWA, with ANU and Adelaide, one of three Go8 members whose degrees carry regional migration benefits.

Why Indian students choose UWA

UWA is the Go8 campus on the Indian Ocean side of the country. Its engineering degrees are accredited by Engineers Australia and its IT degrees by the Australian Computer Society. Perth's economy runs on mining, energy and the services around them, which shows in programmes such as the Master of Offshore and Coastal Engineering.

Fees in rupees

A UWA engineering year costs ₹38 lakh (A$56,200), the Master of Information Technology and Master of Data Science ₹36 lakh (A$54,400) and the Master of Public Health ₹34 lakh (A$50,700). UWA's International Student Award takes 10% off for the whole course for 2027 starters; the Global Excellence Scholarship, up to 20%, is for high achievers from selected countries.

Regional status for the 485: Category 2

Perth is a Category 2 city. A UWA bachelor's or higher gives five regional points on the skilled migration test, and a graduate who has lived in a regional area for two years can apply for a second 485 of one year after the first, which for an Indian master's graduate is three years under AI-ECTA. Albany, on the south coast, is Category 3.

Pathway

UWA College runs the UWA Foundation Program. See pathway colleges.

Our assessment

UWA offers a Go8 degree, regional points and lower fees than the Sydney and Melbourne members. Mind the early offshore deadline of 11 January, and compare the fee with ANU, the other Go8 member in a Category 2 city.

How does UWA convert CBSE marks?
UWA adds the points of your best four CBSE subjects (A1 = 5, A2 = 4.5, B1 = 3.5, B2 = 3, C1 = 2) and maps the total to an ATAR: 9 points give ATAR 70, 12 give 80, 14 give 85, 16 give 90 and 18 give 96. For ISC, an average of 60% gives 70, 70% gives 80, 75% gives 85 and 80% gives 90.
What ATAR do I need for UWA?
The Bachelor of Science needs an ATAR of 70, which is 9 CBSE points or an ISC average of 60%. Other courses set higher ranks.
