Why Indian Student Visa Applications Are Refused in Australia, and How to Reapply
In October–December 2025 Home Affairs granted 59.5% of student visa applications from Indians outside Australia, against 83.8% for all applicants. Four in ten Indian decisions that quarter were refusals. Most refusals come down to the Genuine Student assessment, funds, documents and the planning-level priority of the provider.

Ask for the full decision record, answer every reason point by point, add evidence where it was thin (funds history, employment, the link between past study and the course), and rewrite the Genuine Student answers in your own words. A second identical application with a new fee of ₹1.7 lakh (A$2,500) usually ends the same way.

Large deposits shortly before lodging raise questions. Funds held for several months, an education loan with a sanction and disbursement letter, or parents' income shown by tax assessments are stronger evidence.
Questions from Indian students: Visa refusals and reapplying
Why are Indian student visas refused in Australia?
Weak or generic Genuine Student answers, funds that are unexplained or recently deposited, documents that contradict each other, a course unrelated to past study without explanation, and integrity concerns about documents.
Can I reapply after a refusal?
Yes, unless the refusal letter imposes a bar. Read the reasons, fix each one with evidence and apply again with the full fee. Most offshore refusals cannot be appealed.
Does the planning level affect my application?
Ministerial Direction 115 processes applications in priority order by provider allocation. A provider that has used most of its allocation gets lower priority, which can mean longer waits.
What happens if documents are false?
Refusal and, for fraud, possible bars on future visas. Never submit documents you have not checked yourself.
Should I change university after a refusal?
Only if the refusal reasons point to the course or provider. Changing without fixing the reasons rarely helps.
