Why Indian students choose Monash

Monash is large enough to offer almost any subject, from applied data science to pharmacy, and it is one of the few Go8 members that sets aside money specifically for South Asian applicants. Its engineering and IT faculties sit at Clayton in Melbourne's south-east, beside a research and manufacturing precinct; business teaching is at Caulfield, on the train line to the city.

Monash charges by credit points: 48 points is a standard full-time year, so a fee quoted for 48 points is the cost of one year.

Fees in rupees with the India grant

A Monash Master of Data Science or Information Technology costs ₹39 lakh (A$57,540) a year and the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) ₹42 lakh (A$63,040). The A$15,000 grant, at the top tier, is worth about ₹10 lakh once; spread over a two-year master's it brings the yearly cost close to that of RMIT. Monash undergraduate alumni receive 10% off graduate course fees.

Housing

Monash has halls, studio apartments and shared flats at Clayton and Peninsula, and Mannix College sits beside Clayton.

Regional status for the 485: Category 1, no bonus

Clayton, Caulfield and Parkville are in metropolitan Melbourne, Category 1, so the standard Indian 485 applies (three years after a master's). The Gippsland and Mildura campuses are regional, but most international courses are taught in Melbourne.

Pathway

Monash College runs the Monash University Foundation Year, Monash diplomas and English courses. The standard Foundation Year costs ₹29 lakh (A$42,800) for 2027 and accepts the AISSCE at 50% with IELTS 5.5. See pathway colleges.

Our assessment

A Go8 degree with a grant designed for Indian applicants and the most forgiving foundation entry of the group. Monash suits engineering, IT and pharmacy students who want Melbourne and a large university.
