The Melbourne Model and what it means for you
Most Australian universities let you enter law, engineering or medicine straight from school. Melbourne does not: those professions are graduate degrees, and the undergraduate years are a broad Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, Design, Biomedicine or Fine Arts. An Indian student who already holds a bachelor's from home therefore lands exactly where Melbourne's teaching is most concentrated: the two-year master's in computing, engineering, finance, public health and the sciences, taught at Parkville on the northern edge of the city centre.
The courses we read run from a one-year Master of Business Analytics (A$91,488 for the course) to two-year professional degrees. The university describes its graduate employability as first in Australia and cites the Times Higher Education 2027 table for its standing as the country's leading university.

Fees in rupees
At about ₹67 to the Australian dollar, a Melbourne master's costs ₹37–45 lakh a year in tuition alone, before the A$29,710 a year that Home Affairs asks you to show for living costs. Melbourne's fees sit at the top of the Australian range: a similar Master of Information Technology costs ₹32 lakh (A$47,040) at RMIT, a few tram stops away, and ₹39 lakh (A$57,540) at Monash.
Regional status for the 485: Category 1, no bonus
Parkville is in metropolitan Melbourne, so a Melbourne degree earns neither the five regional points on the skilled migration test nor a second 485. The post-study stay is the standard Indian one under AI-ECTA: two years after a bachelor's, three after a master's, four after a PhD.
Our assessment
Choose Melbourne when the name on the degree matters to the employer you want, or when the course itself, such as public health or biotechnology, is among the strongest in the region. If the goal is a two-year IT master's and a job in Melbourne, compare the fee with RMIT and Swinburne: the visa outcome is the same and the saving can reach ₹10 lakh a year.
