RMIT University for Indian Students: Fees in Rupees, the Future Leaders Scholarship and CBSE Equivalents

RMIT began in 1887 as the Working Men's College and is now a university of technology, design and enterprise with its main campus in Melbourne's city centre and others at Bundoora, Brunswick and Point Cook. It ranks joint 119th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, tenth in Australia.

Why Indian students choose RMIT

RMIT is in the middle of Melbourne: lectures happen in buildings along Swanston Street, and the city's offices, cafés and part-time jobs are outside the door. It teaches the subjects Indian students ask for most, with information technology, data science, computer science, software engineering and nine engineering master's specialisations, at fees well below Melbourne and Monash. It is also one of very few Australian universities with a pilot training degree, the Bachelor of Aviation at Point Cook.

Melbourne courses start in Semester 1 (classes from 1 March 2027), Semester 2 (12 July 2027) and, for some programmes, a third intake from September to November.

Fees in rupees with Future Leaders

The Master of Information Technology at ₹32 lakh (A$47,040) a year is about ₹31.5 lakh; with the 20% Future Leaders Scholarship about ₹25.2 lakh, among the lowest prices for a master's of this kind in a major Australian city. Fees stay constant within a calendar year; the Student Services and Amenities Fee is charged on top.

Regional status for the 485: Category 1, no bonus

RMIT's Melbourne campuses are in a Category 1 city. An Indian graduate's 485 is two years after a bachelor's, three after a master's and four after a PhD, with no regional extension.

Questions from Indian students: RMIT University

What CBSE percentage does RMIT need?
RMIT reads CBSE and ISC averages at the same level as its Australian standard: a course that needs 70% needs 70% in CBSE. State board HSC students need five points more, so 75% for the same course. Diploma entry needs 60% (state boards 65%).
What is the RMIT Future Leaders Scholarship?
A 20% tuition reduction for the whole of an eligible bachelor's or coursework master's at RMIT Melbourne, for citizens of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Pakistan with an offer for a 2026 or later intake. It stays open until all places are filled; RMIT awarded 3,750 in 2025.
How much does RMIT cost?
For 2027, the Master of Information Technology, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence cost A$47,040 a year, engineering master's A$49,920 and the MBA A$52,800. RMIT may raise fees by up to 7.5% each calendar year.
Does RMIT charge an application fee for India?
A$100, for applicants from selected Indian states and regions. It is credited to your tuition deposit when you accept.
Can I do the RMIT Master of IT without an IT degree?
Yes. The Master of Information Technology (MC208) takes a bachelor's in any discipline with a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0.
