How to Apply for Australian University Scholarships From India: Timing, Marks, Statements and Common Mistakes
Most Australian scholarships for Indian students are decided by your marks at the moment of the offer, so the work happens before you apply: a strong final transcript, a clean application and, for the few competitive awards, a statement written for that award and submitted before its own deadline.

A checklist
List the awards at each university on your shortlist and note which are automatic and which need an application.
Apply for admission early: RMIT's Future Leaders closes when full, and UQ ranks offer holders against each other.
For statements, answer the question asked, with specifics: what you studied, what you built or led, why this course.
Submit final results promptly; a conditional offer may be upgraded once the marks arrive.
Read the conditions for keeping the award: a minimum average each semester is common.

Missing a separate deadline that comes before the admission deadline; choosing an MBA where the award excludes it; accepting a one-off grant over a percentage award that runs for four years; and assuming two awards from the same university can be combined.
Questions from Indian students: Applying for scholarships in Australia
Do I need to apply for Australian scholarships separately?
For most percentage awards, no: UNSW, ANU, UQ, RMIT, UTS (South Asia), Federation and others assess you with the application or offer. Sydney's International Student Award needs a personal statement; Adelaide's 50% award and Sydney Scholars India need separate applications.
When should I apply for scholarships?
With your admission application, as early as possible. Competitive awards close before admission deadlines, such as Tasmania's Aurora Excellence on 15 November 2026 for February 2027.
Which marks do universities use?
Class 12 for undergraduates, converted the way the university converts it for admission; your bachelor's average or GPA for postgraduates. A first-class degree or 75% and above opens most awards.
Can I get a scholarship after I start?
Some universities offer awards to continuing students, but the large tuition awards are for commencing students and are set at the offer stage.
Does the scholarship affect my visa?
It counts as evidence of funds, which lowers the amount you must show, and should be mentioned in your financial documents.
