Three years or four
A three-year bachelor's gives a two-year 485. A four-year engineering or IT honours degree with a first-class result gives three, the same as a master's, which can make a four-year degree in Australia better value than a three-year degree followed by a master's.
Questions from Indian students: Bachelor's in Australia
Can I study in Australia after Class 12?
Yes. Every university on this site admits Indian students on CBSE, ISC and most state board results. Go8 universities convert your marks into an ATAR equivalent; others set a percentage, such as 65% in CBSE at Flinders.
Do state board students need higher marks?
Usually five to ten points more. RMIT asks state board students for five points above the CBSE figure; Adelaide University asks 80% against 70%; UNSW accepts only the Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka boards.
How long is engineering in Australia?
Four years for a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), which Engineers Australia accredits. A first-class honours result in this STEM degree gives an Indian graduate a three-year 485 instead of two.
What IELTS do I need for a bachelor's?
IELTS 6.0–6.5 for most courses: UNSW 6.0 with 5.5 in each band, most others 6.5 with 6.0 in each band. Nursing, teaching and law ask for 7.0–7.5.
What if my Class 12 marks are too low?
A foundation year or a pathway diploma. A diploma leads into the second year of a bachelor's; see pathway colleges.
