Teaching in Australia: the figures

Across 10 universities this subject comes to 14 programmes on our list (2 bachelor's, 12 master's). Only one bachelor's price is on the list: ₹24 lakh (A$36,035) for a year. One year of a master's here costs ₹23 lakh (A$34,944) to ₹38 lakh (A$56,800). Campus cities: Sydney (3), Wollongong (3), Adelaide (2), Melbourne (2), Townsville / Cairns (2). Bachelor's study lasts 3.5 years; a master's here takes 1.5–2.3 years.

Teaching placements

Master of Teaching courses include at least 60 days of supervised teaching in schools and a final teaching performance assessment. You also need a working with children check before placements, and an English level that meets teacher registration rules, which is higher than for most courses.

Questions from Indian students: Teaching in Australia

Can I become a teacher in Australia after studying there?
Yes, with an accredited initial teacher education course and registration with the teacher regulator in your state. AITSL assesses teachers for skilled migration.
Primary or secondary?
Secondary teaching needs a first degree with enough study in the subjects you will teach, such as mathematics, science or English. Primary teaching takes graduates from a wider range of degrees.
How much is a Master of Teaching?
Wollongong A$34,944–36,000, Western Sydney A$36,824, Swinburne A$38,960, Flinders A$40,000, UWA A$41,300 (18 months), UNSW A$47,000, UQ A$48,080, Sydney A$56,800 a year.
Is a Master of Education the same?
No. A Master of Education (Wollongong, Monash) is for qualified teachers who want to specialise; it does not lead to registration.
Are teachers in demand?
Australian states report shortages, especially in mathematics, science and regional schools.
